TORONTO — Ontario NDP Shadow Minister for Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement Tom Rakocevic (Humber River—Black Creek) is warning drivers about the Ford government’s changes to auto insurance that take effect July 1:
“This is a gift from the Ford government to wealthy insurance companies,” said Rakocevic. “Ontario drivers pay some of the highest premiums on the continent, even though drivers here are among the lowest in per capita accidents. Now, the government is changing the law to allow insurance companies to take away mandatory coverages to save drivers dollars a month while still getting gouged.
“These are cuts disguised as choice, and drivers can unfortunately expect their rates to continue climbing year after year, as they have since the Ford government took control. It is important for people to think carefully before they reduce coverage that has always been mandatory until now. Those dollars they may save will pale in comparison to the thousands they may lose should they have an accident.
“The Ford government can’t keep allowing drivers to be gouged by greedy companies. This will not lower sky-high insurance rates and will only make matters worse for drivers if they end up in an accident.”
We're so happy to have you on the team. We'll be in touch soon.
