Ford’s test rationing a sign that Ontario has gone backwards: Horwath

QUEEN’S PARK — Official Opposition NDP Leader Andrea Horwath released the following statement in response to the Ford government’s announcement about COVID-19 testing today:

“Doug Ford’s rationing of testing today is further evidence that we are going backwards. He is causing chaos with a so-called plan that is not working.

Just yesterday, Doug Ford was telling Ontario about his so-called plan for asymptomatic testing, telling everyone to go get tested. Today, the government says people will be turned away from testing centres if they are asymptomatic.

No one disagrees with prioritization, but Ontario should not have to ration tests and turn people away from testing centres. We wouldn’t be in this position if Mr. Ford had listened and taken action sooner, instead of refusing to properly fund public health units. If I were premier, I would have rolled out a readiness plan months ago, and that plan would have given public health units the resources they need to test and contract trace quickly.”
