BELL: Students and families at Heydon Park Secondary deserve certainty

TORONTO — Ontario NDP MPP Jessica Bell (University—Rosedale) is calling on the Ford government to stop the plan to close Heydon Park Secondary School and move its students with special needs.

“These are kids that need stability and routine,” said Bell. “Pulling the rug out from under them and their families is the latest in a long line of callous moves by the Ford Conservatives. The entire reason Heydon Park is under threat of closure can be traced back to eight years of Doug Ford’s cuts to Ontario’s education system.

“Special education has endured massive cuts. Hundreds of TDSB staff have been laid off. Class sizes are out of control, and now schools are being threatened by closure, so the land can be sold off to the highest bidder.

“Every child in Ontario should be able to learn in safe and welcoming classrooms. Our kids can only reach their full potential if these Conservative cuts are reversed and replaced by a broad investment in our schools.”
